Commissioned portraits

I enjoy collaborating with portrait clients to make sure the artwork they’ve commissioned fulfills their expectations.

Step 1: Consultation

The process begins with a consultation (usually by phone) with the client to determine the overall feel of the portrait. All aspects of the portrait are discussed — the size, the setting, the pose as well as where the painting may be hung. This visit also gives me time to get to know the client and the subject of the portrait.

Step 2: Photo References

Option 1: A photo session where I will take a number of photographs in a variety of poses and lighting situations to arrive at the best reference for the portrait — this is a fun, relaxed time where the personality of the subject and compositional ideas for the painting start to emerge. Option 2: Submit your own digital photo. Contact me for details.

Step 3: Concept Review

After reviewing the photos, I will share them with the client and we will schedule a time to discuss which ones I feel would be best to use as reference materials for the portrait.

Step 4: Painting Begins

Once a final concept is agreed upon, I will begin creating a portrait that will be cherished for a lifetime and last for generations to come.

Christen is professional and creative. My son absolutely adored her! Her paintings are unique, and she captured my son’s personality perfectly. I can’t say enough great things about Christen! She is truly a talented artist.
