commission process
Christen enjoys collaborating with her portrait clients to make sure the artwork they’ve commissioned fulfills their expectations.
The process begins with a consultation with the client to determine the overall feel of the portrait. All aspects of the portrait are discussed — the size, the setting, the pose, as well as where the painting might be hung. This visit also gives Christen time to get to know the client and familiarize herself with the subject. The next step is a photo session where she will take a number of photographs in a variety of poses and lighting situations to arrive at the best reference for the portrait — this is a fun, relaxed time where the personality of the subject and compositional ideas for the painting start to emerge.
After reviewing the photos, Christen will contact the client to discuss the photos she feels would be best to use as reference materials. This meeting may take place in person, by phone or via email. Once a final concept is agreed upon, Christen will begin creating a portrait that will be cherished for a lifetime and last for generations to come.
“I love my portrait of my dog Heidi! She is almost 18 years old and I will cherish the memories this painting will provide in the future. Christen did an amazing job capturing the “real” Heidi.  It is a beautiful, but also whimsical painting.” – Suzanne Weatherford
